~13 months out, yes.
Too early to commit? maybe.

But for those that are ready - Registration is now officially open for the 2023 Single Handed Trans-Pacific Yacht race! (https://www.jibeset.net/JACKY000.php?RG=T004055182)

Dave,
Thank you for publishing all the race documents, entry forms, and fee schedule so early. I expect that it may get the attention of procrastinators and motivate them them to enter and start the preparation of their boat, because there is a larger time gap between the initial notice and the start of the race. Kind of like locking your keys in the car will. Of course I may be projecting since I have had to call pop-a-lock at least a dozen times.
In any case, thank you for your effort and work.
Jim

I am wondering, are there any criteria for the health of the skipper for the SHTP?

Or are these decisions decided by the skipper and their family / friends?

Would having a pacemaker be a plus or a minus? Just asking for a friend.

Hi Ants -
There are no published criteria, though the RC does reserve the right to reject entries it deems unsafe or inappropriately prepared.

The primary decision rests with the skipper and their family - basically RRS Part 1.3 "decision to race"

to your specific example, no, I don't see why a pacemaker would automatically preclude participation;
it would be up to the racer, their family and presumably their cardiologist to evaluate their overall condition and specific circumstance

Tell your friend kindly to not sit too close to the steering compass.
